What it's like to work with me

My Treatment Philosophy

My goal is to help you achieve your goals, whatever they may be. I value both compassionate directness and – when appropriate – humor in therapy. I tend to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) heavily, and perhaps a little differently than you might have experienced before. A lot of my clients previously experienced CBT used in a way that felt like they were being ordered about instead of collaborated with, and I try to approach therapy more like the latter. I like to remind my clients, “I work for you. If it ever feels like you’re working for me, something has gone wrong, and we need to fix it.”

I also bring my own perspective as someone with autism and ADHD (AuDHD) into the clinical process, because too many of my ADHD and autistic clients have received past therapy from clinicians who don’t directly understand some of the challenges. Many of my past clients have told me that it’s a night-and-day difference to talk to someone who’s open about sometimes having similar life experiences.

In terms of my psychological assessment approach, I view assessments as a way of developing a roadmap to both navigate one’s challenges while leveraging one’s strengths, especially for folks seeking diagnostic clarity for maybe the first time in their lives.
